In this paper, we study reliability properties of a k-out-of-n system with single cold standby unit. We mainly focus on the case when operates in discrete time. order to describe its aging behavior consider three different mean residual life functions. By using some statistics present several monotonicity results associated these characteristics. Since calculation described quantities requires finding sums infinite series, provide procedure approximate them an error not greater than desired value. As illustration special cases component lifetimes have geometric, negative binomial and Weibull distributions.
